Good Night, and Good Luck, the second movie directed by George Clooney, follows journalist Edward R. Murrow and his CBS news team as they confront Senator Joseph McCarthy at the height of the anti-communist witch-hunts in the United States. The film revolves around the production of a series of broadcasts that challenge McCarthy’s methods and rhetoric, putting the network under mounting political and corporate pressure.

Shot in black and white, the film’s visual style reflects the era in which it is set, transporting viewers to the world of 1950s broadcast journalism while placing the focus firmly on dialogue and performance. It is no surprise that it was adapted as a stage play, as it contains all the narrative elements of one, but presented in a stylish cinematic way.
